- 7/9/04 Lane Labs Benefin Shark Cartilage inventory is ordered destroyed.

|
Federal Judge William Bassler ruled that Lane Labs-USA, Inc. immediately stop the distribution of Benefin® Shark Cartilage, MGN-3®, and SkinAnswer® because they are misbranded, unlawfully marketed products, making false and unsubstantiated claims. The judge ordered the remaining inventory destroyed under FDA supervision.
This action follows a $1 million dollar settlement by Lane Labs with the FTC in June, 2000 for making similar false claims about their Benefin® and Skin Answer® products.
Judge Bassler ordered that Lane Labs pay restitution to all purchasers of Benefin®, MGM-3®, and Skin Answer® since September 22, 1999. Requests for restitution can be initiated by calling the FDA District Office in New Jersey 973-526-6000. Or you can fill out the refund form that can be downloaded from this website and faxing it or mailing it to the FDA District Office (Fax #973-526-6069).
These rulings serve to further exonerate Seagate and its founder Richard Lentz, who were sued by Lane Labs in June 1997 in Federal Court for $20 million over statements and independent lab analyses published by Seagate in their “Redbook”, indicating that the product content in Lane Lab’s Benefin® Shark Cartilage was not accurately represented on their label. Lane Labs withdrew from their case in April, 1998 prior to it going to Court after Richard and this company agreed not to sue Lane Labs for malicious prosecution.
